FAQs for Hippies
Frequently asked Questions
Quantum physics unambiguously shows us, that the way we intuitively believe reality works is wrong.
If we want to make good decisions on a global or individual basis, it’s crucial to know what’s real and what’s not. That said, of course, knowing about quantum physics will not solve all of our problems. Much more applied intuition combined with rationality is required.
FAQs for Nerds
No for two reasons:
- If you want to see an interference pattern, the wavelength of the possibility-wave of the football must be of the order of the distance between the slits. For a reasonably moving football, this wavelength is much smaller than the size of an atom. Thus it is impossible to create two slits: there exists nothing thin enough to separate those slits from each other.
- A football has a non-zero temperature and emits black-body radiation in the form of photons. Those photons constantly gossip about the position of the football, so it is impossible to keep the position of the football secret to the rest of the universe. Therefore the football can never go through two slits at once as the slit the football goes through is known to the rest of the universe, making the interference pattern impossible.
If you read the book: Quantum Physics for Hippies, this explanation will make total sense to you! We promise! 🙂
